Q: I think we should start off with the most obvious question. Is Quick your real name?
A: No, it’s a nickname. Not one that I wanted. Not one that I really even liked. But I didn’t care enough to fight it and over time I guess it just kinda became who I am.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Oh, so it isn’t a nickname you gave yourself.
A: Nope.
Q: Do you have a nickname for Quinn?
A: No, but in my mind I see her as a personified exclamation point. More like three exclamation points.
__________________________________________________________
Q: What is something you enjoy doing? Something you’re good at?
A: Asking questions. Finding answers. Life’s a bunch of riddles in a way.
Q: How do you come up with these questions?
A: In my head. And I guess I lean on my intuition more now.
Q: Did something happen to spark that shift, to lean more on your intuition?
A: If you hang out with Quinn, it just happens. Like osmosis.
Q: What is the strangest or most interesting question you’ve ever researched?
A: Oh man, there’s been too many. I’d have to think about this one for hours. What I can say, though, is that Twain was right: Truth is stranger than fiction.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Going back to Quinn, I understand you two are best friends. Would you consider yourself a friendly person?
A: Yeah. But I’m pretty sure I give off a vibe that I’m not. I think I come across as aloof because I don’t smile a lot.
__________________________________________________________
Q: I can see that… How would you describe yourself then?
A: I don’t know. I don’t really think about stuff like that.
Q: Would you call yourself intelligent? Thoughtful? Brave?
A: Intelligent, yes. Thoughtful, I try to be. Brave, more so now. I didn’t used to be.
__________________________________________________________
Q: What’s your biggest fear?
A: Nope.
Q: Nope?
A: As in, not answering that one. Next.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Okay. Who do you admire?
A: My folks. They’ve been through hell but they keep crawling back out of it. Next.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Got it. I sense that would be a tough conversation. Have you had a lot of tough conversations in your life?
A: I just had three really hard ones recently. One with my mom and two with Quinn. And with graduation around the bend, I’m sure there’s another one or two in the near future. I’ll let you know how they go.
Q: You will?
A: Nope.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Well, I hope they go well. If not, are you one to give people second chances?
A: I don’t know, it depends on whether or not the person is worth it. And on whether or not the remorse is genuine. Like, if the person took responsibility and you really believe that he or she will try harder in whatever regard, then yeah. Second chance. Otherwise, probably not. __________________________________________________________
Q: Do you have regrets?
A: Nope.
Q: Nope, as in…
A: As in next.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Is it hard for you to trust people?
A: Yep. Working on it.
__________________________________________________________
Q: That’s good. We’re all working on things. In terms of the future, do you think you have a true calling?
A: I do now. I was lost for a long time, but a couple weeks ago, I woke up from deep sleep suddenly knowing it. Knowing what call I am going to answer. Don’t ask, though, okay? I don’t want to keep coming off like a jerk by saying no, but I don’t want to talk more about it.
Q: I understand. That sounds fascinating though, like it was like an epiphany.
A: Kinda. Although the real epiphany was like a week before that. That one had to do with personal stuff, and the dream thing was more about what to do with my life.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Okay. Why don’t we pivot to some lighter questions? Do you like a life of spontaneity or stability?
A: I think that depends on what stage of life I’m in. I’d probably be good either way but if I had to pick, I’d say stability. But I think it’s more about who I’m doing life with, you know?
__________________________________________________________
Q: That makes sense. Do you think you’ll prefer an urban city life or a more quiet, remote one?
A: Remote.
Q: Care to expand?
A: I’d rather live a quiet life. I like the mountains and river type of scene. I appreciate the desert, but I think I’d like a little more rain in my life. More green.
Q: If raindrops weren’t a thing, what would you want to fall from the sky?
A: Dude, that’s a weird question. What’s weirder, though, is that I have an answer. Bacon-wrapped dates. Ask me another weird one.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Okay. Who are two people you’d love to see box each other?
A: That’s too weird. Like I would be wishing for someone to get hurt. I’d love to see Quinn kick the crap outta Mandy, but then I don’t want Quinn to get hit or anything. You know what I mean?
__________________________________________________________
Q: Yeah. Alright, what’s your favorite phone app?
A: I really only use my phone for navigation and for texting Quinn.
__________________________________________________________
Q: Do you two text a lot?
A: I guess. I don’t really know what constitutes “a lot.”
__________________________________________________________
Q: Is texting her one of the first things you think of doing when you wake up, and one of the last before going to sleep?
A: Dude.
__________________________________________________________
Q: We’re done here, aren’t we?
A: Yep.
